Sometimes a desk doesn't need much more than a simple parsons table and your laptop...and sometimes....
You must go big! This glamorous space was designed for the Kips Bay Showhouse last year.
Email us a picture of your desk at inspirationalhome@gmail.com, and we might feature it in our column in Colorado View Magazine!

Above is Martha Stewart's desk profiled in Vanity Fair in 2008.
This desk looks like a disaster with no hope of finding anything important, all significant papers lost....look closer- this desk belonged to Albert Einstein.
Tell us about your desk, inspirationalhome@gmail.com, and we'll share it in the upcoming issue of Colorado View Magazine!

Colorado View Magazine, "A Reader's View"
I am excited to debut my new column for Colorado View Magazine!
Each issue, I will feature interior design elements from the reader's view. For our first issue, we are profiling our reader's offices- specifically your desks.
Are you messy or organized? Is your space pretty or utilitarian?
If you want to show off your desk- email your name and a brief description of your work space- please don't forget a photo!
Email now to be included in the upcoming issue: inspirationalhome@gmail.com.
These three photos are courtesy of Decor Pad and the Porchlight Interiors Blog.

Shopping in Washington D.C. today...
Two antique finds that seem appropriate for this vibrant, politically infused town:
Drink table from the Promenade Deck of the First Class Observation Lounge on the S.S. United States Ocean Liner, $8,500. Rare opportunity, only at Darrell Dean Antiques.

19th Century George Washington portrait at the Susquehanna Antique Company, $1,100.

What a wonderful laundry room- so clean, fresh. This is actually an enjoyable activity now. Thank you Things That Inspire blog for the photo.
Follow the light...
I am on the hunt for two lamps to sit on either side of a built-in bench at an eating nook. These are some of my finds.

The British Calm
The British have a great sense of style and an innate spirit that doesn't appreciate excess or loud attention. Their rooms are chic and comfortable even when they are in a modern style. Here are some rooms by The Chic Shack, which is a furniture and accessory house in London. The store is dripping in linens and fitted furniture and if you stop by for a visit, you will surely be offered a cup of hot tea.

Steven Gambrel gambles with color and wins...
I pulled these rooms from the January 2010 Elle Decor issue featuring Steven Gambrel's project in the Hamptons. Gambrel uses color in very unexpected ways and the colors themselves are a bit unexpected.
I love the red frames in the hallway gallery. With black and white photos, you really see the images when framed in a bold, but consistent color.
Awesome shower- the wide polished nickel frame adds warmth to the exposed glass and the petite but masculine vanities keep the shower the focus. I also like the floor stone as the base of the vanities.
The patterned floor, the textured subway tile and the inset cabinets blends whimsy prep & professional cookery yet the open shelves bring us back to the setting- Hamptons countryside.

Iron Windows
Thanks Two Ellie!
I love this bathroom and kitchen posted on Two Ellie's Blog.
The bathroom is so minimal and clean with just a cup of coffee and fruit- what a wonderful room to wake up to.
This kitchen is traditional with marble and white cabinets but the gallery of frames and yellow pop of color adds modern drama. Love it.

Notes from my library...
I love my book collection. Today, I revisited one of my favorites, "The Way We Live". Often in our industry we are asked to mimic life abroad- to create a French inspired dining room or build Mediterranean architecture. It is one of the most fun aspects of my job and often one of the most fulfilling- to push the limits and try and create something totally new. But sometimes we forget... that tradition and living habits are really quite similar across the globe.
Authors Stafford Cliff and Gilles De Chabaneix say,
"At the heart of every thinking person's house should lie a library or book-room, a repository of the intellectual adventures of the owners."
Well said.
Here are three libraries from across the globe- Provence, Paris and Austria.
And four wonderful gardens from Majorca, Tuscany, Bali and France.
And four versions of a farmers market in Italy, Bangkok, Nepal and Sri Lanka...a little different than the one we attend outside our Whole Foods Market:
