Today, great design takes this historically utilitarian door and updates it, so that function is lead by style. These doors move along a track and are easy to add to any opening. They instantly add character- sometimes in keeping with the barn and sometimes bringing a very modern look to a room. If the design of the door is right for the house, the idea will translate.
Our barn door is installed in our mudroom and hides coats, diaper bags, muddy wellies and all the junk that keeps our 'barn yard' mess hidden! We chose to keep the style and trim very simple, painted white, in keeping with the style of our home:
